Balancing Act:
Wellness for First Responders

GROUP TRAINING

This is a comprehensive Trauma-Informed Care Training program aimed at equipping first responders with the tools and knowledge necessary to restore a sense of safety, empowerment, and self-worth in themselves and the communities they serve. This training will address the unique challenges faced by first responders, providing essential skills, insights, and support systems.

The need for this program is underscored by alarming statistics that highlight the mental health challenges faced by first responders. According to NAMI, a significant number of police officers die by suicide each year, and firefighters and paramedics are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. PTSD is pervasive among first responders, with a substantial portion self-medicating to cope with daily stressors. Failing to address these challenges not only jeopardizes the well-being of our first responders but also compromises the safety and security of our communities.

Statistical Support

Statistics from reputable sources like the Institutes of Health underscore the urgency of addressing this issue. Over 80% of first responders experience traumatic events on the job, putting them at high risk of developing PTSD. Roughly 1 in 3 first responders develops PTSD, compared to 1 in 5 in the general population. An estimated 400,000 first responders in America exhibit PTSD symptoms. These statistics highlight the need for immediate action to provide effective support.

This program aims to mitigate these challenges by equipping first responders with practical tools to handle stressors and challenges in a trauma-informed manner, and providing a safe space for sharing experiences and fostering peer support through interactive in-person training.

Benefits for Fire and Police Departments

  • Increased retention rates as first responders feel valued and supported.

  • Enhanced workforce wellness, leading to decreased burnout and improved mental health.

  • A strong foundational knowledge of trauma-informed care that improves overall team dynamics and interactions.

We believe that by investing in the well-being and training of our first responders, we not only protect their health and livelihoods but also ensure the highest level of service to our community. The Balancing Act: Wellness for Responders Training program is an essential step toward a safer, healthier, and more resilient future for your department and the individuals and community it serves.
