Balancing Wellness in Education

In a time marked by distance learning and staffing shortages, educators across Oregon have faced unprecedented challenges. The return to in-person learning coupled with increased workloads has led to alarming levels of burnout, stress, and emotional fatigue. The impact of these stressors on educators' mental and emotional well-being cannot be underestimated. Educators, who have always faced challenges, now find themselves in an even more demanding environment. The pandemic's effects have left teachers overwhelmed, juggling diverse tasks, and struggling to balance professional and personal responsibilities. Some teachers are taking paid vacation time just so they can grade homework.

The Balancing Wellness in Education training program responds directly to these concerns by addressing burnout, PTSD, peer support, and stress. Our program offers educators the tools, insights, and support systems needed to navigate these challenges effectively. Through real-life scenarios and interaction, educators can develop responses and strategies to cope with emotional stressors and increase their work life balance.

Key Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this training, participants will be armed with the fundamental principles of trauma-informed care. They'll be equipped with practical tools to discern and respond to trauma adeptly, while harnessing the skills to adopt a trauma-informed outlook within the educational setting. This serves as the initial stride towards fostering a trauma-informed organization, heralding reduced stress, heightened cohesion, and diminished burnout.

Our training sessions typically span two to four hours, adopting a presentation-style approach. The core of the training revolves around dynamic staff discussions, anchored in real-world scenarios. This methodology is firmly rooted in trauma-informed care principles, facilitating collaborative solution-finding.

Collectively, participants will craft a toolkit designed to bolster self-support, mutual assistance, and student well-being. This session engenders profound layers of understanding, empathy, and service, fostering a milieu in which staff feels esteemed, acknowledged, and empathetically understood.
